CINEMATOGRAPHY video feedback: learner response

1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher.

WWWs were: good description and shot list, good location use; Central London, effective soundtrack, post-production is good; sped up footage, good opening shot, simple effective narrative, handheld tracking shots and a good cliffhanger ending. An EBI was to pay attention to details like spelling.

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students.

   WWW:                                                                      EBI:

- good description/shotlist                                           - pay more attention to detail (spelling)

- good variety of editing/shots
- zoom ins are effective
- created enigma codes
- sound effects create suspense
- good narrative/plot
- good location
- editing like flashing is effective
- nice use of non-diegetic sound
- pace matches sound

3) Now reflect on your work and write your own summary of the comments and feedback you have received. Write three WWWs and three EBIs.

My main strengths in this task were shown through my cinematography; I used a strong variety of shot types, which made the narrative visually engaging and helped build suspense - especially with the closeups of the phone. The zoom-ins and handheld tracking shots were effective because they added tension and created enigma codes that would keep the audience interested. However, to improve, I need to pay closer attention to details like in my work, like spelling. I could have also experimented with even more shots and attempt shots like the dolly shot or dutch tilt etc. This would make my final video look more polished and professional worthy. Overall, my video had a good storyline and included elements like non-diegetic sound and props, making it more authentic.

4) Learner response: think about what you learned about cinematography making the video and also watching others. What will you do differently when you start the coursework in the summer? What tips or tricks have you learned from others that         can use next time? Are there any specific aspects of camerawork that you need to revise or practice?

From making this video, I learned how much cinematography changes the whole atmosphere of a scene. Using closeups and zoom-ins helped me build tension and make the narrative feel more realistic. Watching other people’s videos also gave me ideas to improve further as I could add more creative shots. For example adding a shot like a dolly shot where the background is moving backwards and has this illusion effect while the camera moves forward, and this could easily develop a more sparking plot or generate stronger enigma or action codes. When I start my coursework in the summer, I want to plan and apply my knowledge more carefully and also revising strongly - like adapting the cinematography or adding more effective sound. I can also push my post-production ( editing ) further, despite already adding good effects like flashes and transitions like fade ins and outs, I can add more to make it smother and more professional. I also plan to revise more cinematography key terminology overall so I can explain my decisions in more detail. Overall, I’ll focus more on attention to detail even tiny spelling mistakes so both my filming and written work looks more high-quality.
