Sound video feedback: learner response

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher.

WWW:  flower matches lyric - parallel, good concept of life and death, well chosen clips,

EBI:  less ambiguous music choice, include paced clips e.g fast/slow

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback.

 -  good parallel music on the video  (song mentioning flower and video being a flower)                   -  good quality sound and videos
 -  ambiguous sound
 -  contrapuntal  side was a bit unclear
 - could have used some original video clips or images

3) Now reflect on your work and write your own evaluation of your video. Write a 'What went well' (WWW) paragraph and a paragraph for 'Even Better If' (EBI) underneath the rest of your feedback.

What Went Well (WWW):
My sound practical task went well because i had combined the violin calm sounds with rain flowers growing which was parallel and when the sound mentioned a dandelion, i had added a dandelion timelapse which gives an effect. When the sound had a beat drop i tried to add a contrapuntal part as it doesn’t suit the nature vibe.

Even Better If (EBI):
The main thing I could improve is to not choose an ambiguous sound as it was quite vague for the task and I could have made the contrapuntal areas a bit more clearer as not many people would acknowledge it. I could have also included some original video clips or images and not just got them from online.

4) Learner response: compare your own video against your evaluation of the top three videos in the class. Whose did you think was best and why? How could you have improved your own video?

TOP 3: Tara, Kaye and Maya's were the best because you could see the parallel and contrapuntal sides clearly and their video was good. I could have improved my own video by featuring some of my own original clips as this would have made it more authentic.

5) Finally, what have you learned about the importance of sound to film and TV through this week's work?

Through this, I realised how important sound actually is in film and TV and how much it changes the way we view a scene. Parallel and contrapuntal sound showed me how music can completely control the mood, either matching the action or contrasting with it to make things feel either unsettling or surprising. I also understood how diegetic and non-diegetic sound, sound effects, dialogue, and even techniques like sound bridges help guide the audience and signal what might be about to happen. Overall, I learned that sound isn’t just something in the background and actually plays a massive role in shaping the film/series, and how we react to the visuals.
