CONCLAVE film review

conclave film review

This film is a mystery and thriller genre based on a pope election as the previous one had passed away.  I think it’s mainly aimed at adults who enjoy mystery and tension. It follows Cardinal Lawrence as he tries to manage the conclave while uncovering secrets about the candidates, which creates a constant sense of suspense. I liked how the plot revealed hidden motives, and the enigma codes kept me guessing who was being truthful and who was hiding something. The action code was the building blowing up as it created shock. The cinematography was good because it used varieties of angles like closeups to show pressure and wide shots of the atmosphere to emphasise the area of the event. The mise-en-scene, especially the detailed costumes and historic settings, made everything feel very authentic. One criticism I have is that some scenes felt slow, especially in the middle, which made the tension dip slightly and it became a bit boring for a long amount of time . Overall, it’s a political interesting film with a mix of drama and mystery.

MY RATING: 3/5
