CLUELESS film review

clueless film review

This film is a coming of age genre set in the 90s. I think it’s mainly aimed at teenagers, especially girls as it consists of a teenage girl by the name of Cher trying to upgrade her grades and also included elements of a typical popular girl, as she was girly and fashion-oriented and also her trying to find romance, not just for her but for others too. I liked how the plot was structured at the beginning, and there was lots of enigma codes that kept me wondering what would happen next, while the action codes added humour. The cinematography was bright and vibrant, using close-ups to show emotions and long shots to show the social groups, and the mise-en-scene with costumes and setting made the high school feel realistic. I really enjoyed the aspect of the main character’s journey and her friend helping a new girl and giving her a makeover to feel confident. One criticism I have is the unexpected  romance between her and Josh, since they were step-siblings at one point and it felt awkward and didn’t fit the story well. Overall, it’s an entertaining film for teenagers, with a good mix of comedy and drama even if some parts of the romance were a bit strange.

MY RATING: 3.5/5.
